Skin Cancer Awareness and Prevention
Skin Cancer Awareness Month is observed annually in May. It’s a campaign aimed at raising awareness about skin cancer, its prevention, detection, and treatment. Skin Cancer is by far the most common form of cancer, and its incidence is increasing worldwide. Individually, the risk of Skin Cancer increases as you age, which is likely due to the accumulated exposure of UV radiation and to the aging process itself. A history of frequent sunburns, especially when they occurred during childhood, is especially associated with a higher risk of developing Skin Cancers.
Sunscreen is essential to protecting your skin, but not just in the summer months. Tina Bright, the in-house aesthetician at Stephen Lober Plastic Surgery, strongly encourages patients to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen 365 days a year. We carry three SkinCeuticals sunscreens at our office including Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50, Daily Brightening UV Defense Sunscreen SPF 30, and Sheer Physical UV Defense Sunscreen SPF 50.
Sunscreen is 20% the month of May so stop by today and be sure you are ready for those sunny summer days!
